The EDIE Interactive Training Course

This training uses virtual reality to put you in the shoes of Edie, a man diagnosed with Alzheimer's, for a moment. You will experience the difficulties Edie faces as he tries to perform a simple daily activity.

The various workshops will allow you to explore what people with dementia experience, learn how to work in partnership with them to determine their daily needs, and develop a support plan that will help them feel more confident and live better with the disease.

Suitable for caregivers in contact with people with neurocognitive disorders and their informal caregivers.

PATSY CLAPPERTON
ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Valued for her leadership and communication skills, Patsy helps put people at the heart of HR priorities. Her strategic support for managers enables the development of key practices to mobilize work teams to provide distinctive service to seniors.

She has nearly 25 years of experience in human capital development within organizations. Her background and expertise have led her to focus more specifically on the reality of the sandwich generation, the repercussions of ageism in the workplace, and management strategies combining efficiency and benevolence.

Patsy holds a Master's degree in Psychology with a specialization in Organizational Development from the Université de Sherbrooke and is a member of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec. She also acts as co-investigator in the field of practice in an action-research project on the social participation of seniors facing marginalization and exclusion dynamics, which will enable the development of intervention tools to support their inclusion in community leisure settings. The research is overseen by the Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory on the Inclusive Leisure Experience at UQTR.

In this 3-hour training, you will learn how to:

Understanding dementia from the perspective of someone living with it.

Addressing the specificities related to support for neurocognitive disorders, including personal and individual needs.

Bringing about changes to provide a better quality of life for the affected person (changes in their environment, as well as in how to communicate and interact with them).

Work closely with the affected individual and their caregivers to define their needs.

Develop an effective support plan, centered on the individual with the illness, and aimed at restoring their confidence despite the disease.

Each training is divided into three parts

EDIE - simulation d'expérience de la démence - formation professionnels

1

During the first part, experience the virtual reality that will present the "bad scenario", i.e., the current context in which Edie operates and which is not adapted to her needs.

EDIE formation 2 - atelier expérentiel pour professionnels de santé

2

During the second part, participate in a discussion about the person-centred approach, which will allow you to learn what changes can be made in your environment to significantly improve the lives of people with neurocognitive disorders (communication, display, understanding of needs, etc.). Empowering and measuring the impact of our actions on affected individuals will also be discussed.

EDIE formation 3 - comprendre la démence par la simulation

3

Finally, in the third part, relive the virtual reality experience, but this time with the "good scenario" in which positive strategies have been put in place so that Edie has a more pleasant life.

"This training is so practical! All employees working with people with dementia should receive this training. Very relevant and enriching! It provides tools/actions that can be concretely applied daily and that will truly make a difference for residents. I will be able to implement new methods and pass on the information to my teams.

Thank you again for the excellent training. It's one of those trainings I'll never forget..."
