Type de stimulation

Memories to tell, stories to share and wonderful moments to relive!

With Anecdote, every memory becomes an opportunity to share one's story and build connections! Specially designed for seniors, including people living with Alzheimer's disease or cognitive impairment, this reminiscence game invites residents to revisit different periods of their lives through pictures, anecdotes and warm conversation.

From childhood to adolescence and adult life, Anecdote offers 20 squares divided into four major life periods. In the centre of the game, photographs from the 1930s to the 1980s spark curiosity and inspire conversation. Text in extra-large print makes reading easier and the activity more accessible.

Anecdote promotes:

  • Reminiscence and recalling personal memories
  • Verbal expression and communication
  • Autobiographical memory and cognitive stimulation
  • Social interaction and sharing experiences
  • A sense of belonging and bonds between participants

No need to find the right answer! Every story, every memory and every exchange has its place. A lovely way to liven up group activities, discover residents' life stories and share moments rich in emotion and connection.

Available in French or English.

Caractéristiques

The game also has a sensory dimension: when a player lands on one of the corner squares, the leader can offer objects to touch, look at, taste or smell, helping revive memories through sensory experiences. This approach makes the game even more interactive and suited to people with reduced independence, while encouraging enriching exchanges.

To help lead the game, an instruction booklet is included. This guide offers practical tips for leading sessions, suggestions of objects to use to enhance the experience, and advice for asking questions suited to people with cognitive impairment.

Anecdote, inspired by an idea from Nicole Mitchell, a social work student in Montréal, was successfully tested with people with reduced independence in long-term care homes, offering a playful, meaningful way to stimulate memory and encourage exchanges between participants.
